DUBAI, 19 February 2022 — Kim Clijsters showed why she is a four-time Grand Slam champion when she defeated 2018 Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki in the Women’s Singles Exhibition Game at Expo 2020 Dubai’s Tennis Week on Saturday evening.

She first reached the No 1 spot in singles on August 11, 2003, and became the first Belgian player to attain the No 1 ranking. She has spent a total of 20 weeks at the top of the singles rankings throughout her career. She spent 19 weeks at No 1 in her first career and returned to No 1 for one week on February 14, 2011 — making her the only mother to hold the top spot since computer rankings began in November 1975.

In doubles, she first achieved the No 1 ranking on August 4, 2003, and was No 1 for a total of four weeks. She is one of only six women to simultaneously hold the No 1 ranking in both singles and doubles. With strong performances from both stars, Clijsters took the first set 6–4. Wozniacki came back, taking the second set 6–2, but it was Clijsters who claimed victory with a super tiebreaker of 10–7. Between sets, the players clapped along to the music with the audience, showing their sense of fun and camaraderie with each other.

Ahmed Al Katib, Chief Development and Delivery Officer, Expo 2020 Dubai was among the delegation who presented bouquets of flowers to the champions, as they expressed their happiness at participating in the friendly match.
